Best Ever Pulled Pork Sandwiches?

As previously mentioned, I (Crystal) am addicted to Pinterest and when I showed Carrie this recipe for the Best Ever Pulled Pork Sandwiches, we decided that we just had to try them. The part that piqued our interest most was the fact that you use Diet Pepsi in the recipe. Since we've never cooked with soda before, this will be our first attempt.

We also had to adjust the recipe for what we had on hand, so here's the original recipe, kindly provided by Ally's Sweet & Savory Eats.

Pork butt (We used 3 lbs - but you can use whatever size needed for your family)

1 can Diet Pepsi

1/2 bottle Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce

Lawry's Seasoning Salt

So our substitutions were-

Regular Pepsi (because we just don't do diet.)

3/4 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Barbecue Sauce (To accomodate the larger roast)

Johnny's Seasoning Salt (It's our regular seasoning of choice)

Coat the roast with the seasoning salt, pour in the Pepsi and BBQ sauce and that's it! Put it on low for 4-5 hours, after 4 hours shred it with two forks and then let the meat absorb the sauce. It's that simple!

We realize that the roast isn't going to taste the same as it would if we followed the recipe to a T. (Which we will at some point when we go to the store for the actual ingredients.) But we will let you know if the substitutions can be just as tasty.

So to start, here's our roast in the crockpot getting nice and toasty-

When it was finished we discovered that only the side of the roast that had been submerged in the sauce was tender enough to shred, so I shredded that side and turned the roast over to continue tenderizing-

So far I'm not sure I'd say it was the best, but it is pretty tasty. Obviously, we'll have to try it again with the proper ingredients.
